Meet Matt

Long before I ever considered running for public office, I learned the value of hard work, responsibility, leadership, and service on a family farm in Lorain County, Ohio.

I was born in Oberlin and raised in the small rural community of Wakeman. Growing up on a farm taught me lessons that have stayed with me throughout my life: work hard, keep your word, help your neighbors, and leave things better than you found them.

From the age of five through my graduation from Firelands High School in 2013, I participated in the Lorain County Fair, exhibiting livestock and developing a deep appreciation for agriculture, community involvement, and the traditions that bring people together.

As a student, I stayed involved in organizations that allowed me to serve and lead. I was active in 4-H, eventually being elected President of my club, and participated in FFA throughout all four years of high school.

I also served on Student Council all four years, was elected Vice President as a junior and President as a senior, and was honored to be selected as Student of the Month during my senior year.

I also participated in the Teen Leadership Corps, where I volunteered alongside local nonprofit organizations, community groups, and programs serving children with special needs. Those experiences taught me that leadership is not about titles or recognition. It is about listening, showing up, and helping others.

At nineteen years old, I joined the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Unit and served as a volunteer for approximately three years. During my training, I graduated at the top of my academy class in academics. That experience reinforced the importance of discipline, professionalism, and service to the community.

Today, I have nearly a decade of experience in the insurance industry, helping individuals, families, farms, and businesses navigate complex issues and make informed decisions.

What I enjoy most about my work is helping people solve problems and ensuring they feel heard when they need answers. Over the years, I have learned that listening carefully and communicating honestly are often just as important as finding the solution itself.

Those experiences have strengthened my ability to evaluate complex issues, communicate clearly, and make thoughtful decisions. These are skills that I believe are essential in public service.

In 2022, my husband Colby and I chose to make Hilliard our home. We were drawn to the city’s welcoming atmosphere, beautiful neighborhoods, strong sense of community, and its unique ability to maintain a small-town feel while offering the opportunities of a growing metropolitan area.

We share our home with our dog, Maggie, and our cat, Tyson.

I am an active member of Rock City Church and enjoy attending events throughout Old Hilliard and supporting local businesses. The more time I have spent in this community, the more I have come to appreciate the people who make Hilliard such a special place to live.

My decision to run for Hilliard City Council came from listening to residents and following local issues over the past several years.

Like many people, I saw concerns being raised and questions being asked, yet too often residents felt their voices were not being fully heard. I believe local government works best when elected officials remain accessible, transparent, and engaged with the people they serve.

I am not running because I have all the answers. I am running because I care deeply about this community and believe residents deserve a representative who listens first, communicates openly, and remains accountable to the people they serve.

I support responsible growth that protects the character of our community while preparing for the future.

I believe strong infrastructure, fiscal responsibility, thoughtful planning, and open communication are essential to maintaining the quality of life that residents expect and deserve.

Most importantly, I believe government should never lose sight of who it works for. Residents deserve leaders who are honest, responsive, and fair. They deserve leaders who listen, communicate openly, and remain accountable to the community every day; not just during council meetings.

That is the standard I will hold myself to as a member of City Council.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, my family, and why I am running. I look forward to earning your trust, your support, and the opportunity to serve our community.
